Kaufman, Nancy Ann Day

Nancy Ann Day Kaufman, 62, of Galesburg, IL, transitioned at 2:20 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2014, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.

Nancy was born on June 20, 1952 in Galesburg, the daughter of Dorothy (Mahoney) and Myrel Day, who preceded her in death. She had no siblings.

She was raised and educated in Abingdon, IL, and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1970. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Communications from Monmouth College in 1974.

Surviving are her husband, Steve Day Kaufman and their son, Shawn Caleb Kaufman, and three grandchildren: Addyson Kraus, and twins Finnigan and Sullivan Dickson.

After graduating college she worked with people with disabilities, primarily at Knox County Council for Developmentally Disabled, from which she retired after 30 years of service. As part of community outreach for KCCDD, Nancy taught sign language to grade school children.

She was actively involved in local politics and the Democrat Women. She was an avid student of spiritual studies. She enjoyed movies, plays, and mystery stories. She was loved by everyone who knew her!

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, with a brief prayer service following immediately thereafter. No funeral service will be held – cremation will be accorded after the visitation. Memorials may be made to Carver Community Action Agency, Boys and Girls Club of Knox County, and KCCDD; all of Galesburg, IL.
