Sluyter, Harold R.

Harold R. Sluyter, 81, of Abingdon, Illinois died 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born October 24, 1933 in DeLong, Ill. to Austin and Lucille Shinn Sluyter. He married Sarah Strode August 3, 1952 in Abingdon. She Survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Rhonda (and Don) Tucker of Knoxville, Ill., Tammy (and Michael) Phillips of Wataga, Ill. and Michelle Bent of Galesburg, a half-brother, Harold (and Chris) Shumaker of DeLong, a sister Betty (and Gary) Courter of Abingdon one grandson, Justin Tucker, two granddaughters, Heidi (and Chris) Bent Renner and Annabella Rose Kirk and two great-grandchildren Christopher Renner, Jr. and James Renner. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Shirley Pitman.

Harold first worked for the former Blue Bell Factory in Abindgon. He later worked for Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg as an electrician for over 20 years. He was the owner of Sluyter’s TV Sales and Service in Abingdon. He also worked for School District 217, Abingdon in maintenance and retired in 1992. Harold was a member of the Gold Wing Club and I.B.E.W. He also volunteered for the Abingdon Police Auxiliary and EMT.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Russ Witkowski will officiate. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels or to the family.
