Sage, Clyde E.

Clyde E. “Gene” Sage, 75, of Monmouth, passed away at 4:04 a.m., Monday, December 29, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.

He was born June 30, 1939 in Monmouth, IL the son of Clyde and Grace (Montgomery) Sage. Gene was raised and education in Monmouth and attended Monmouth Public Schools.

Gene married Donna J. Wright on July 7, 1961 in Monmouth, she survives.

He first worked at the Brass Factory in Abingdon, IL. Gene later went to work at Maytag in Galesburg for many years.

Gene was an avid marble collector; enjoyed western music, and loved to tinker; he always has the right tool for the job. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Donna Sage of Monmouth, son Terry (Janice) Sage of Rockton, IL; daughter Tammy Sage of Carpentersville, IL, grandchildren; Zach Herr of Rockton, Ariel (Wenyang) Yao of Arizona, Emmi Herr and Clay Sage both of Rockton. Also surviving are his brothers; Richard (Claudia) Sage of Alpha, IL and Dean (Shirley) Showalter of Tallahassee, FL., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Gene’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from Noon – 2:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
