Boyd, Max L.

Max L. Boyd, 77, of Avon, IL passed away at 10:05 PM Thursday January 8, 2015 at the Prairie City Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born September 25, 1937 in Bushnell, IL to Harold and Lottie (Clark) Boyd. He married Jo Cook on July 22, 1961 in Rhinelander, WI. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Stephen Boyd of San Angelo, TX; Jeffrey Boyd of Avon, IL; three grandchildren, Brandi (Michael) Watkins of Abingdon, IL; Zachary and Dallas Boyd both of San Angelo, TX; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Paige and Demi Watkins; two sisters, Phyllis (Ernie) Repp of Avon, IL; Betty Howard of Bushnell, IL; several nieces and nephews and his two faithful companions Lil Bit and Bruno.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Barbara Paul; Polly Zook; four brothers, Ed, George, Howard (Sam) and Vincel (Toot) Boyd.

Max graduated from Avon High School in 1955. He worked his way through college at Briggs Mfg. and Club 41 as a bartender, graduating from Western Illinois University in 1962. He was an educator for Abingdon School District for more than 30 years, of which he taught History and P.E as well as coached football, track and basketball at both the Junior High and High School. Max was an avid golfer and outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, wildlife and had a love for history. He was a diehard Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Max enjoyed his stool at Club 41 while watching Jeopardy.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Babbitt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Abingdon-Avon Booster Club.
