Powell, Margaret Mae

Margaret Mae Powell, 82, of Ellisville, IL passed away at 4:00 AM Saturday January 10, 2015 at Prairie City Rehab and Health Care Center. She was born January 14, 1932 in rural Avon, IL to Clarence and Elsie (Clary) Knott. She married Howard “Jake” Melvin Powell on March 29, 1952 in Lewiston, IL. After 54 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 24, 2007.

She is survived by four children, Sharon (Bill) Bailey of London Mills, IL; Karen Powell of Canton, IL; Mike (Carolyn) Powell of Ellisville, IL; David (Melissa) Powell of Bushnell, IL; one brother, Russell “Dean” (Connie) Knott of Abingdon, IL; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Margaret worked for over 20 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Prairie City Nursing Home. Caregiving defined not only what Margaret did but it’s who she was. She lived for her family, always putting her children first. She was an avid musician with a “God given talent” with no formal training. Margaret never met an instrument she couldn’t play or a song she couldn’t master. She was a member of the St. Augustine and Ellisville Christian Churches. Margaret enjoyed gardening and canning. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, always ready with not just a piece but an entire pack of gum for each of them

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 14, 2015 at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon, where visitation will be two hours prior to services from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Pastor Rick Weiss will officiate. Interment will be in Wiley Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Prairie City Rehab and Health Care Center or to Juvenile Diabetes Association.
