Barsema, Marilyn Wilhelmina

Marilyn Wilhelmina Barsema, 81, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, fell asleep in the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at her home in Chardon, Ohio.

Marilyn was born October 4, 1933 in Princeton, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Hermiona (Buelow) Shinn. She married Vernon Barsema on July 5, 1953 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2002.

She is survived by her sons, Everett Barsema and David Barsema both of Galesburg; her daughters, Deborah (Paul) Stelter of Oswego, Illinois and Lori (Tim) Staggs of LeRoy Township, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Jasmine, Savannah Barsema, Matthew, Ryan, Adam Stelter, Jonathan (Lisa), Christopher, Joshua Staggs; and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Marilyn and her husband owned and operated Auto Mufflers for over 30 years. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1952. She also graduated from Carl Sandburg College in 1972 and Bradley University in 1975. She was a long-time member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She was very involved at her church and served with the Ladies Aid group.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 12 pm at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 1372 W. Fremont St, Galesburg. Rev. Daniel Smith will officiate. Visitation will be at 11 am until the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt Calvary Lutheran Church.
