Larson, Kate Zelene

Kate Zelene (Main) Larson of Woodhull, Ill. died peacefully in her home the morning of Saturday January 17, 2015, surrounded by family. It was a beautiful winter morning with a “pink” painted sunrise. Kate was born the daughter of Keith and Jean (Cunningham) Main on February 18, 1959. Her father preceded her in death in 2008. Her mother survives. Kate graduated from R.O.V.A. High School in 1977 and Midstate College in 1979 with an accounting degree. She married her high school sweetheart Mark A. Larson November 29, 1985. He survives. They were blessed with two loving sons, Steven A. Larson of Altona and David J. Larson of Woodhull, also surviving.

Kate was sister to Stephen Main of Altona, Ill. Sharon (Charlie) Spencer of Winchester,Virginia, Janice (Dean) Steck of Knoxville, Ill. Lisa Sopher of Oneida, Ill. and Pete (Christi) Main of Altona. Her beloved second family included mother and father in-law Ed and Helen Larson of Rio, Ill. Sister and Brother In-laws, Lisa (Gary) Nelson of Woodhull, Deanne Larson of Cutler, Ill. and Tracey (Jason) Bailey of Galesburg. Kate enjoyed spending time with her 8 nieces, 4 nephews, 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews all of whom survive.

Kate worked in the accounting field since college, the last 14 years at Dick Blick Art Materials. Kate served as a passionate supporter of the Knox County Relay for Life committee for 6 years and was chairperson for the event two of those six years. She was also an AlWood FFA Ag Alumni and an active member of the United Church of Altona.

Kate was a leader who fought cancer on her own terms, while bringing Hope to so many others. Her unending faith was her strength, as she danced to her favorite song– Life is a Highway. The Highway of Life has taken her to her heavenly destination where she will forever be at peace. We are all better people for knowing her.

Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, January 22 at the United Church of Altona. Pastor David Pyell will officiate. Memorials to the American Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
