Gillett, Marie S.

Marie S. Hardi Gillett, 93 of Avon, IL passed away Wednesday January 21, 2015 at 3:30 pm at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. She was born September 29, 1921 in Coupland, TX, the daughter of Samuel and Ella Beyers Hardi. She married George Gillett on February 6, 1944. She was a war bride. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2005.

Marie is survived by two sons Rand Gillett of Charleston, IL and David (Rebecca) Gillett of Avon, IL; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Clay, Jeanne Gillett, Carissa Pearce, Amy Cockran, Micah and Leah Gillett; 2 great grandchildren Danny and Audrey. She was preceded in death by 2 sons (Daniel and Robert), 1 grandson (Alex Gillett) and 1 great grandson (Sidney Cockran) 1 sister and 1 brother.

She was reared and educated in Coupland, TX. She moved to Austin to work for the phone company, that’s where she met George. She was a member of the Avon Federated Church and the Clayberg Quilting Circle. She spent many an hour at church working on quilts and with their quilting bazaar. She made dozens of beautiful quilts for her family but never kept any for herself. She also loved working outside and landscaping her home. Her biggest love was her family. She was very proud of them all. She loved watching her grandchildren grow up and then her great grandchildren also.

Funeral service will be Thursday January 29, 2015, 10:00 am at the Avon Federated Church. Visitation will be Wednesday eve January 28, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Avon Federated Church. Burial will be in the Olive/Holman Cemetery Avon, IL. Memorials may be made to the Avon Federated Church and or the Marie Gillett Memorial. Online condolences may be left at www.hooverhall.com.
