Wayne, John W.

WayneJohn W. Wayne, 63 of Alexis, IL passed away Monday February 1, 2015, 1:56 pm at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. He was born April 30, 1951, in Monmouth, IL the son of James and Roselyn Ramsey Wayne. He married Sherri Hull on July 16, 2004.

He is survived by his wife Sherri of Alexis, IL; two sons Aaron (Dara) Wayne of Galesburg, IL and Andrew Peck (DeShawn Barrett) of Chicago, IL; 3 grandchildren Zion, Adam, and Ayden; two siblings Debbie (Terry) Wernick of Camanch, IA, and Jim (Bonnie) Wayne of Galesburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He served his country in the US Army 173rd Airborne serving 3 tours from 1969-1971 in Vietnam. He worked for the Corps of Engineers for 37 1/2 years counting military time. He was a scuba diver and instructor and also a sky diver and instructor. He was an author releasing his book “Three Pete.” He could be seen driving around a lot of places with “Dewey” his chocolate lab. He was an avid Bear’s fan. His favorite place to be was at his home Bar which he built, Harleys, and Harbors. He enjoyed being there with good friends and family having crown and cokes. John touched many lives through his travels, work and service to his country and will be deeply missed.

Funeral service will be Saturday February 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hoover Hall Funeral Home in Alexis. Burial will be in the Alexis Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded at the grave by the James Harvey Scott American Legion Post # 189. A celebration of Life will be held following the Funeral at the Monmouth American Legion from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm to share stories and celebrate his life with his Family. Visitation with the Family present will be held Friday February 6, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Hoover Hall Funeral Home in Alexis. His family would also like people to stop by His Bar after visitation until 10:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Alexis Fire Department; Alexis North Henderson Ambulance or In his Memory.
