Fire Kills Young Girl in Rural Warren County

Breaking NewsUPDATED 10:52am  Few details are being released about a fire overnight that claimed the life of a girl in rural Warren County.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards says the blaze in the 1400 block of 190th Avenue in rural Cameron was first reported around 11:15 last night. Edwards says two adults and one child were able to escape the fire safely, but he says a nine-year-old girl did not and was pronounced dead.

The student has been identified on the Monmouth-Roseville School District website as K’lynn Laws, a student at Central Intermediate School.  Laws, Superintendent Ed Fletcher says in a letter on the district website, was well-liked, and “could light up a room.”  Staff and other counselors will be on hand today at the school.

Edwards says an investigation into the fire is being conducted by his department, the State Police Crime Scene Technician, the Warren County Coroner, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

Almost a half-dozen fire departments responded to the scene and were still there early this morning, including departments from Cameron, Roseville, Kirkwood, Central Warren, Abingdon, and Alexis, among others.

Edwards says an autopsy on the young girl will be conducted this afternoon.
