Hanson, Leanelle

Leanelle “Husky” Hanson, age 78, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 3:45 A.M. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at his home.

He was born on March 22, 1936 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Alvin and Golda Matthews Hanson. He married Linda Price in May of 1959 in Knoxville, Illinois, then married Joan Nelson on February 22, 1995 in Galesburg, Illinois. Joan preceded him in death on July 29, 2000. He then married Alberta “Maggie” Day on February 28, 2004 in Knoxville, Illinois. Maggie preceded him in death on August 20, 2010.

Surviving are two sons: Terry Lee Hanson of North Carolina and Corey (Andrea) Hanson of Knoxville, Illinois; one granddaughter, Wendy; a special friend, Judy Olin of Knoxville, Illinois; one sister, Avanelle M. Way of Knoxville, Illinois; one niece, Monica (Kenneth) Tetrault of Meridian, Idaho and one nephew, Monty (Penny) Way of Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Glen Way.

He began working for the CB&Q Railroad as a diesel mechanic, then Burlington Northern, retiring in 1996 after 43 years. After his retirement he worked part-time for the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville and Oneida for fourteen years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, Illinois, Knoxville Masonic Pacific Lodge #66 A.F. & A.M., and Knoxville Fire Department for 49 years and is now an Honorary Member. He enjoyed his antique cars, looking at antiques, and traveling.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois, beginning with Masonic Services, conducted by the Knoxville Masonic Pacific Lodge #66. Rev. Michel D. Clark and Rev. David Shreeves will officiate the funeral services. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. A fellowship at the Hurd Hendricks Fellowship Center will follow the funeral service, then at 1:00 P.M. procession to Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, Illinois for internment. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, Illinois or the First Christian Church of Knoxville, Illinois.
