Steward, Everett Ray

Everett Ray “Sonny” Steward, age 82, of Altona, Illinois died on Monday, February 2, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.

Everett was born in Altona Illinois March 26, 1932. He leaves a wife of 58 years, Marilyn Joan Steward and a son, Ron of Springfield Illinois. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny Rylander and Betty Bjoriling.

He had served in the National Guard and the U.S. Navy. He was a bricklayer by trade. Was proud to have been a Master Mason in the Lodge of A.F & A.M. for 60 years. First in Altona Lodge #330 and later transferring to Galva Lodge #243. He was a Grand Lecturer Emeritus of the Grand Lodge of Illinois. In younger years he enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, trapping and fishing. He had enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his son and friends. He competed in Trapshooting for many years. He was recognized by the Amateur Trapshooting Association for shooting over 50,000 singles and attaining the maximum handicap classification of 27 yards. He greatly enjoyed trading and researching collectable firearms. He was an Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association.

With so many friends and relatives already gone, it was his wish, shared by the immediate family, not to have a visitation or funeral. Cremation rites will be accorded.
