McNaught, Alvah

Alvah “Al” Junior McNaught, 88, of Galesburg, died at 6 a.m. Friday, February 06, 2015 at home.

Al was born on June 26, 1926 in Biggsville, the son of Alvah Sherman and Viola Douglas McNaught. He married Marcella P. Collins on March 8, 1958 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on November 12, 1997. Al is survived by one son, T.J. (Susan) McNaught of Galesburg; two daughters, Marsha (Scott) Cudd and Penny McNaught both of Galesburg; and two sisters, Arlene Eliopoulos of Sun City West, AZ and Dorothy Ritchie of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Lee Olson, Matthew Branham, Patricia Oleson, Kristina Henderson, and Karl McNaught; and five great grandchildren. Along with his wife, Al was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth McNaught; and a sister, June McNaught.

Al enlisted in the US Navy on November 5, 1943 and served during WWII, being honorably discharged on May 11, 1946. While in the Navy, Al earned the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Al worked as an engineer for Admiral and later Maytag for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, BPOE 894 and Moose Lodge 880. Al enjoyed woodworking.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Foundation or to OSF Hospice.
