Young, Larry P.

Mr. Larry P. “Hoot” Young, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:13 am Sunday, February 8, 2015 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

He was born on June 9, 1931 in Galesburg to Herbert A. and Edith D. Ericson Young. He married Delores Guenther on October 4, 1952 in Knoxville, Illinois. She survives.

Also surviving is a son, Don (and Linda) Young of Normal, Illinois; six grandchildren, Katie (and Adam) Trammel, Kyle (and Emily) Young, Kevin Young, Kelsey Young, Amy Mercer and Tracy (and Nathan) Peters; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by a son, James C. Young on August 2, 2013 and a brother.

Larry was a machine repairman at the former Outboard Marine Corporation/ Gale Products for 30 ½ years, retiring in 1982.

Larry served in the Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 2257. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. (I.A.M.A.)

Private graveside services will be held at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
