Powers, Marvin Dale, Sr.

Marvin “Marty” Dale Powers, Sr., 71, of Galesburg, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 in Heartland Health Care Center.

He was born July 14, 1943 in Avon, the son of Leonard Harvey and Hazel Marie (Morris) Powers.

He is survived by three children, Marvin “Marty” Dale (and Angie) Powers Jr. of Galesburg, Christina Tenhaaf of Galesburg, and Melissa Maynard of Decatur; two grandchildren, Andria Powers and Christopher Tenhaaf; five brothers, Alvin L. Powers of Bushnell, Everett L. (and Martha) Powers of Knoxville, Leland H. Powers of Galesburg, Eldon Powers of Ellisville, and Gregory K. (and Donna) Powers of Knoxville; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis Powers.

Marty was an assembler at Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He graduated from Valley High School. He enjoyed going to yard sales, fixing radios, and gardening. He was a Chicago Bears fan.

Marty served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and in the Reserves until 1969. He boxed while in the Air Force and was captain of the boxing team.

Visitation will be begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Military Honors.
