Mannon, Dr. Vernon Raymond

Dr. Vernon Raymond Mannon, 88, of Galesburg, formerly of Monmouth and Peoria, died at 8:17 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

He was born in June 3, 1926 in Kewanee, IL the son of Arold and Myrtle (Algren) Mannon. He was raised and educated in Wyoming, IL and Galesburg, IL. He later attended and graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College, Indianapolis, IN in 1951.

Vernon served with the United State Navy from 1944 until 1946 as a Fire Control man Third Class.

Vernon married Marilyn Clair Linner in Galesburg on January 28, 1950 and they raised 9 children. He later married Evelyn Shane in Colorado on February 20,1996 and she died August 8, 2013.

While serving in the Navy, Vernon developed Polio. His uncle was a chiropractor in Galesburg and through treatments he was cured of Polio. This life changing event inspired Vernon go into Chiropractic as a career. Vernon was a Chiropractor practicing in Monmouth from 1951 until 1979. He later practiced in Peoria, Bloomington and Benson, IL before retiring in 2014. In 1951 he was named Illinois Chiropractor of the Year. He was a member of the Monmouth Lions Club, Wilaboc boat Club in Oquawka and serviced as President of the Illinois Chiropractic Society.

He loved boating on the Mississippi River with his family and Friends. He enjoyed watching his many children play sports and most of all their many family gatherings. Helping family member with improvement projects made his day. His biggest passion was to help and heal his patients with Chiropractic and natural supplements. He was a master mechanic of the human body.

Survivors include his children, Kirby (Karen) Mannon of Gig Harbor, WA, Terri (Brant) Weil of Monmouth, Rick (Laura) Mannon of Gilbert, AZ, Polly Mannon of Galesburg, Patsy (Greg) Manuel of Rockford, IL, David (Lorie) Mannon of Gilbert AZ, Linda (Keith Gossling) Mannon of Monmouth, Peter (Arlene) Mannon of Chandler, AZ and Micah Mannon of North Glenn, CO; 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, daughter, Laurie Crandall and grandson, Nathan Weil.

Cremation has been accorded. No calling hours or services are planned at this time. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
