Manuel “Manny” Padilla, 87, of Galesburg, died at 7:22 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Heartland Health Care, Galesburg.

Manny was born November 15, 1927 in Galesburg, the son of Joseph and Isabel Casillas Padilla. He married June 13, 1953 in Galesburg. Manny is survived by two sons, Kenneth J. (Denise) Padilla of Topeka, KS and M. Marc (Jamie) Padilla of Rock Island; one daughter, Mary T. (C.J. Johnson) Padilla of Galesburg; eight grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Richard, Joe (Pam), and Tony (Hope) Padilla all of Galesburg; four sisters, Sally Ponce, Jennie (Lupe) Vasquez, Mary Jo Schafer, Francis Cervantez, and Elizabeth (Dave) Ewing all of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara on May 20, 2000; a daughter, Cathy Kornegay on September 3, 2001; one sister, Helen Guerrero; and two brothers, Pato and Eddie Padilla.

Manny served in the US Army Air Corp. Manny worked for 43 years at Maytag Corp. retiring in 1989. After he retired, he volunteered at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Manny was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was an Eucharistic minister, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, and a 4th Degree member of Father J.O. Hunt Knights of Columbus Council 556. Most of all Manny loved spending time with his family.

The rosary will be prayed at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will follow from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Galesburg. Rev. William Miller, IC will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, or OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center.
