medina, dorothy666Dorothy Dean Medina, 85, of Galesburg, died at 10:48 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Heartland Health Care, Galesburg.

Dorothy was born February 4, 1930 in Clinton, TN the daughter of Richard Calvin and Margaret June Lively Charles.  She married Mario Medina on February 4, 1953 in St. Patrick’s Church, Galesburg.  Dorothy is survived by three sons, Philip, Michael, and Steven (Helen) Medina all of Galesburg; one daughter, Susan (Ricky) Wilder of Galesburg; one brother, Clyde Charles of Galesburg; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Mario on October 21, 2013; her parents; three brothers, Robert, Richard, and Donald Charles; and two sisters, Wilma Stewart and Marie Carothers.

Dorothy worked as a clerk for several years at Arlan’s and Belscot stores in Galesburg.  She was also a homemaker.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the altar and rosary society.  She was also a member of the DESA( Destroyer Escort Sailor’s Association) women’s auxiliary.  Dorothy loved to be with her family and enjoyed cooking.  Dorothy and Mario enjoyed camping, traveling to Las Vegas and going to the river boats.  She also was an avid bingo player.

Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Rev. William Miller, IC will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
