Dare, Carol Photo2Carol Dene Dare, 85 of Abingdon, died at 9:12 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Care Center of Abingdon.

She was born on January 2, 1930 in Canton, the daughter of Sherman G. and Helen Bernice Moore Foster.  She married C. Bernard Dare on July 6, 1952 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Canton.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Bernard; a son, David F. (Jacque Arthur) Dare of Avon; a daughter-in-law, Kathy (Larry) Leady of London Mills; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Daniel C. Dare.

She grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1948.  She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife.  She also worked at the Hermon FS Elevator from 1973 to 1976.  She then worked at First Galesburg National Bank (First Illini Bank, Norwest Bank, Wells Fargo Bank) from 1976 until her retirement in 1995.  She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church for over 62 years, and served on the church board and was president of the board twice, was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women, was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a choir member for 25 years.  She was a past president of the Yates City Jr. Woman’s Club, past president of the Yates City Woman’s Club, member and past president of the Abingdon Jr. Woman’s Club, a past president and director for the 15th District of I.F.W.C, a member of G.F.W.C., past president of Altrusa Club of Galesburg, past president of Financial Women, a member of three Bridge Clubs, a member of Abingdon Chapter BB P.E.O. and was a 4-H leader for the Southwestern 4-H Club .

Celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St., Abingdon.  Rev. Jeff Robbins will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church.  Cremation will be accorded following the services with private burial of her ashes in the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton at a later date.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
