Durbin, Kenneth

Kenneth Harold Durbin, 85 of Abingdon, died at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Care Center of Abingdon.

He was born on May 6, 1929 in Galesburg, the son of Hugh and Grace Durbin.  He married Arthela Beere on July 29, 1956 in Knoxville.

Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Arthela, “Arty”; his children, Linda (Bill) Mixson of New Windsor, Kevin (Elizabeth) Durbin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Anita (Lee) Mickael of Burlington, Iowa and Dale (Lisa) Durbin of Middletown, Delaware; nine grandchildren, Steve, Tom (Beth) and Bob (Emily) Mixson, Kelly and Megan Mickael, Randall, Amanda, Noah and Madeline Durbin; one brother, Harry Durbin of Monmouth; one sister, Virginia VanNatta of Bushnell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lloyd Durbin and David Durbin.

He graduated from Sparta High School in 1947.  He was an Army veteran and was stationed in Germany.  He had lived in Galesburg, Wataga and in Abingdon most of his adult life.  He worked at OMC in Galesburg as a punchpress operator and machine repairman for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He later worked at NAEIR for 7 years as a security guard.  He also graduated from Carl Sandburg College in 1986.  His hobbies included woodworking, knitting and embroidering.  He was a ham radio operator.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate his life, the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at their home at 205 W.
