Danforth, Joseph Earl

danforth, josephJoseph Earl Danforth, 92, of Galesburg, IL died at 2:45 AM Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, IL.

He was born August 12, 1922 in Cameron, IL to James F. and Faye Folger Danforth.  He married Helen Hallbick in Galesburg, IL on Sept. 1, 1960.  She preceded him in death on June 6, 2006.

He is survived by two daughters:  Mary (Bob) LeSchofs of San Diego, CA and Teresa (Glenn) Knott of Ellisville, IL, four grandchildren:  Lawrence Knott and Katie Knott both of Ellisville, IL and Nicholas LeSchofs and Christine LeSchofs, both of San Diego, CA, and 16 nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers:  Harold Brown, Fred Danforth, and James Danforth, and one sister, Laura Danforth.

He served in the army during WWII from 1942-1949 as a medic at an evac hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma.  He worked at Rowe Manufacturing Company for 28 years and then Hawkinson Manufacturing Company.

He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cameron American Legion and later Abingdon American Legion.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m.  The Funeral Mass will be 12 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Rev. Dominic Vitaliano will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or to Illinois Veteran’s Home at Quincy.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
