3 Chicago-Area Hospice Agencies to Form 1 Nonprofit Company

CHICAGO (AP) — Three hospice organizations have announced they are merging to form one nonprofit entity to provide end-of-life care in Chicago and 10 surrounding counties.

Horizon Hospice & Palliative Care of Chicago, JourneyCare of Barrington and Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter of Glenview are merging into a single agency. Its name is expected to be announced by late summer. The agreement was announced Tuesday.

Sarah Bealles of JourneyCare has been selected to become president and CEO. She told the Chicago Tribune the merger comes as hospital systems are consolidating and looking for better value from their partners. The three hospice groups have 40 hospital affiliations among them.

Bealles says Mary Runge, CEO of Horizon, and Jamie O’Malley, CEO of Midwest CareCenter, will stay actively involved through the transition.
