Elgin Man Gets 37 years in Prison in Sexual Assault of Child

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) — An Elgin man has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child he knew.
Armando Vega was sentenced Monday by Kane County Associate Circuit Judge Clint Hull.

The 51-year-old Vega was convicted by a jury Feb. 3 of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Trial evidence showed that between February 2007 and February 2011 Vega committed multiple sexual acts with the victim while she stayed on a sofa of a relative’s home. Vega knew the victim, who was younger than 13.

Hull noted during sentencing that the victim endured psychological harm and would continue to suffer.

Vega must serve 85 percent of his sentence under Illinois law. He is credited with 430 days in the Kane County Jail.
