Ferrara Candy to Expand in Bolingbrook

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (AP) — Ferrara Candy Co. will build a 250,000-square-foot packaging facility in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports the candy-maker will erect the center alongside its existing 750,000-square-foot operation. The company says it will also upgrade a Bellwood facility to expand manufacture of the candy sold at Wal-Mart.

The expansions should create more than 100 jobs in the Chicago metropolitan area in the next 18 months. Bolingbrook is 30 miles southwest of Chicago.

The existing Ferrara facility in Bolingbrook originally opened as a Home Depot.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar says other Bolingbrook enterprises are expanding too. He says village officials are excited about Ferrara’s news. He says authorities are “thrilled they want to buy and do as much in America as possible.”
