Maxwell, Jackie PhotoJacqueline “Jackie” R. Maxwell, 75 of Abingdon, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Care Center of Abingdon.

She was born March 15, 1940 in Avon, the daughter of Vernett “Buzz” and Eleanor Harrison Hiel.  She married Robert “Bob” G. Maxwell in 1980 in Galesburg.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Bob; two sons, Donnie Ray (Lesley) Williams of Seneca and Robert Eugene Strong of Galesburg; one daughter, Donna Rae Williams of Chicago; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Trisa Lynn (Rod) Eiker of Gilson, Patricia Marie (Mike Smith) Gray of Galesburg, Robert Scott (Renee) Maxwell of Abingdon and Corey James Maxwell of Galesburg; 5 step-grandchildren; one half-brother, William James (Joan) Keith of Galesburg; and one half-sister, Rebecca Popejoy of Austria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Patricia and one half-brother, Darwyn.

She earned her GED and later attended Carl Sandburg College for 2 years.  She worked as an LPN in critical care at Cottage Hospital for 15 ½ years.  She later worked at the Knox County Nursing Home and the Care Center of Abingdon and she last worked at the Avon Nursing Home, retiring in 1994.  She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and was a Quilting Bee at the church.  She was a past member of the LPN Association and was a past officer.  She was an avid bowler.  She had also served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and was a past Girl Scout Leader.  She was a member of Partners of Hope of St. Jude’s.

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.  Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
