No Bail for Naperville Man Charged in Non-Fatal Stabbings

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — A judge has denied bail for an 18-year-old Naperville man accused of stabbing a couple as they slept in their home.

Zachary Machnikowski is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder in the non-fatal stabbings of William and Mary Link. He also faces home invasion and residential burglary charges.

Machnikowski is accused of entering the couple’s Naperville home through an unlocked door and stabbing them as many as eight times each early Tuesday morning.

Police say Machnikowski and the Links’ 16-year-old daughter attended the same party earlier that evening. They say another partygoer told Machnikowski that the girl had called him ugly, and the attack was retaliation for the comment.

Police say they found Machnikowski’s cellphone in the couple’s bed.

It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.
