Rosenberg, John Karl

Rosenberg, JohnMr. John Karl Rosenberg, 65, passed away quietly at Peoria Methodist Hospital at 12:40 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2015. He had been a resident of Galesburg all of his life since his birth in 1950. He is survived by his loving wife Tammy, sons Sean (Lenka) Rosenberg of Naperville, Illinois and Joshua Rosenberg of Galesburg, step children John Patch, Crystal Smith (Joey Richardson) and Phillip Smith (Arin Miller), seven grandchildren; Natalie and Lizzy Rosenberg, Tyler and Kaylee Richardson, Kadyn and Owen Smith, and Lexi Miller, as well as a sister, Judy (Lou) Prevost all of whom will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Winona Varner Rosenberg, his stepfather A.J. Henig, and by his former wife, Patricia Ferguson, and father in law Bob Lindberg.

In 1968, he graduated from Galesburg High School and later from Carl Sandburg College, where he was named to Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges.  A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the Army from 1969 to 1971.

He was employed by May Company, Holt, and Connor Company as a draftsman, cost consultant, and salesman, and he was head of maintenance at Gates Rubber Company, as well as running an independent heating and plumbing business for many years, but he will mostly be remembered as a musician from his many years of entertaining with the Miller Time Band, Rose Mountain Karaoke, and most recently at the Oaks on Friday nights. Although he enjoyed nearly every kind of music, his favorites were blues, country, and gospel.

A talented artist and musician all of his life, he loved music and entertaining, but more than anything he loved his family and having fun. His marriage to Tammy Smith took place in Branson Missouri on November 17, 2001. He was a devoted husband and father who tried to instill in his children and grandchildren the importance of fair play, doing a job well and being responsible. He was loved and admired by many who will sadly miss his hearty laugh and irreverent sense of humor. He loved politics and political discussions and for several years published an internet blog. In line with his feeling for civic duty, he has participated in and run numerous fundraisers for charitable causes over the past 25 years.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m Tuesday April 7 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Mr. Myron Miller will officiate.  Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at the chapel.  Burial will be at East Linwood Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be addressed to www.h-p-w.com.
