Sandburg Student Wins Silver Scholar Award

carder_erin_webA student at Carl Sandburg College was recently awarded for her efforts by a major corporation.

Erin Carder of Knoxville has been named a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar..for her work as a student leader at the college.

Carder is a non-traditional student at Sandburg. She is a Student Ambassador, President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, as well as a teacher of non-native English speakers. Carder is pursuing a career in either teaching or counseling.

The recent award is part of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, which awards 50 Gold, 50 Silver, and 50 Bronze scholars more than $200,000 annually.

Carder has been awarded the silver scholar distinction, and will reportedly be granted $1,250 in scholarship funds.
The award is administered through Carder’s academic honors society. Awards are judged based on grade point average, academic and leadership awards, and engagement in college and community service.
