Monmouth Native Servicing Navy’s “Most Lethal” Aircraft

Teel-300x199A native of Monmouth is currently serving in the U.S. Navy, and is working with the ” most versatile strike fighter aircraft” in the nation.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas Teel is an avionics technician with Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-122–where he is stationed at Naval Air Station Lemoore, about 30 miles south of Fresno in California.

The fighter squadron operates the “Super Hornet Fighter Aircraft,” which is reportedly the “most lethal aircraft in the entire Navy.” The aircraft conducts air-to-air and air-to-surface combat, where it can travel at speeds of up to nearly 1,200 miles per hour.

Under the “Flying Eagles”– as his squadron has been called, Teel serves as a supervisor for junior Sailors who maintain avionics systems on the Super Hornet.

Teel says  “he’s proud of the work he does maintaining a large number of aircraft.” He says that “through the Navy, he has been able to do things he wouldn’t have been able to do anywhere else.”

As a member of VFA-122, Teel is a member of a 1140 person team. He is 2009 graduate of Monmouth-Roseville High School.
