Bastian Beats Out Goad For City Council, 2015 Consolidated Elections Conclude

election dayThe 2015 consolidated elections came to a close earlier tonight as a number of contested races were up for grabs throughout Knox County and Galesburg.

One of the highlights from tonight included a close race for a ward one alderman seat on the Galesburg City Council.

Newcomer Angela Bastian beat out incumbent Ken Goad. Meanwhile, Russell Fleming will serve his third term in ward three, and Peter Schwartzman was re-elected to ward five.

In District 205, Tianna Cervantez, H. Wayne Statham, Amy Pickerel, and Jean Ann Glasnovich were the newcomers elected to school board seats. A close race in Knoxville District 202 elected Trent Ericson to the one opening on that board. He won the spot over Jeffery Johnson by just four votes.

Knox County Clerk Scott Erickson tells WGIL that overall,  election night went pretty smoothly.

“This cycle of election is usually the smallest–it’s usually the quietest,” says Erickson ” There’s usually not a whole lot of controversy–it’s one that doesn’t necessarily see a whole lot of turnout–but–they are still vital and important. The weather was nice. It wasn’t great today, but it was still nicer than what we have had in the past.”

Erickson says in Knox County that 17 percent of registered voters turned out to cast ballots today. Galesburg Election officials have confirmed that 15 percent turned out in the city.
