Harrisburg Donates Fire Truck to Local College

HARRISBURG, Ill. (AP) — A Harrisburg fire truck is going to college.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports the city of Harrisburg has donated a 1970 American LaFrance fire truck to Southeastern Illinois College.

Officials say the truck will be used for the school’s fire science program that offers ongoing education for area firefighters. It will also be used for events like the annual regional mine rescue competition as well as coal mine rescue safety, fire brigade training, welding technology and diesel technology.

The donation comes after the city did not receive any bids on the fire truck.
