OHSA Cites Lombard Business For Failing to Protect Workers

DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) — U.S Department of Labor officials have found that a crew working on a Des Plaines condominium could have fallen from the seven-story building because their employer failed to provide protection.

The federal labor department announced the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s finding on Monday.

Officials say an OHSA inspection came after investigators saw the crew working without protection on Oct. 30, 2014.
It is the sixth time since 2004 that officials determined Lombard-based employer Armor Shield Construction exposed workers to potential falling hazards.

The company has been cited for three repeated and two serious safety violations for the latest infractions. It also has received $72,380 in penalties.

The labor department is responsible for enforcing the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
