Polls Open as Election Day Hits Knox County

election dayThe 2015 Consolidated Election has arrived in Knox County.

Galesburg Election Office Executive Director Lisa Watson says that final numbers from yesterday indicate that 558 total votes have been accounted for already.

Polls opened at 6 a.m this morning and will remain open until 7 p.m. tonight.

10 different polling places are open in Galesburg alone today. Voters have the opportunity to vote for a number of contested races this election cycle.

Seats on the District 205 School Board could be among the most competitive today. 4 spots are open–2 within and outside of Galesburg Township.

Phillip Slaton, Tianna Cervantez, and the Honorary Wayne Statham will compete for two seats, while Amy Elizabeth Pickerel is on the ballot against two-write in candidates; Maury Lyon and Jean Ann Glasnovich.

On Galesburg City Council, alderman seats within wards one, three, and five will be contested. Incumbent Ken Goad is being challenged by Angela Bastian. Russel Flemming, Mike Nelson, and Chuck Reynolds will vie for a ward 3 seat–and current 5th ward alderman Peter Schwartzman is up against Ted Hoffman.
