No Grandstand at this Year’s DuPage County Fair

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — Unresolved building code violations mean there won’t be a grandstand at this year’s DuPage County Fair.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that fair officials are hopeful the repairs to the grandstand will make it available in time for the 2016 fair. Fair officials say scheduled events for this year’s fair will happen in temporary bleachers.

DuPage County fair Association manager Jim McGuire says the restrooms are the only part of the grandstand that the public can use this year. The fair is scheduled for July 22-26.

Wheaton building inspectors discovered more than 600 violations at the 42-acre fairgrounds. The fair association plans to have all issues resolved by June 1. McGuire says “our grounds will be safe.”
