Knox-Rootabaga Jazz Festival Continues Tonight

Knox Rootabaga Jazz Festival 2014A 35 year old festival that has been bringing the sounds of Jazz to the area will continue with events tonight in downtown Galesburg.

The 2015 Knox-Rootabaga Jazz Festival will move to The Burg’s Bar and Grill this evening, where members of the Knox faculty and staff will join with jazz players from around the community to perform. A performance by Knox Alumni will take place tomorrow as well.

This is the second week of a number of festival events. The Daniel Leahy Group recently performed at Knox kicking off the event last week. Associate Professor of Jazz Studies Nikki Malley says events are in store all weekend long. She tells the WGIL Evening News that kids will get a chance to experience the music as well.

“We have a Rootabaga kids program on the Saturday of Rootabaga,” says Malley. “Galesburg Public Library at 10:30–our Friday night guest artist will perform and talk about what they do for children and families. It’s a great opportunity for kids who perhaps shouldn’t be at a bar for a jazz gig on Friday night, but really would love to learn more about what’s going on here.”

Events tonight and tomorrow kick off around 8 p.m.

The children’s event taking place Saturday at the Galesburg Public Library will begin at 10:30 a.m. Festival goers who want a final night of music can attend the Orpehum Theater on Saturday night to hear The Knox Jazz Ensemble. That event starts at 5 p.m.
