Buffalo Grove Police Dog Dies of Cancer

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (AP) –A memorial has been scheduled for a Buffalo Grove police dog that died of cancer this week.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that Saxon, who retired from the force last week after his diagnosis from cancer, died on Monday.

Department officials say over the past four years, Saxon helped the department seize more than 460 kilograms of marijuana, $250,000 of drug money and assisted in 500 drug arrests.

A memorial service will be held Friday at the Northern Illinois Police K-9 Memorial, located at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.
