Nevada City Clerk Named to Bloomington Post

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — A woman with 15 years of local government experience has been named Bloomington’s city clerk.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that Cherry Lawson will start the $82,500-a-year job May 11 if the city council approves.

Lawson, who leaves the city clerk’s post in Mesquite, Nevada, replaces Bloomington clerk Tracey Covert, who retired in January after 21 years on the job.

City Manager David Hales says he welcomes the “new perspective” Lawson will bring.

Lawson says the Bloomington post appealed to her because it’s larger than previous cities she’s served and is closer to her family. She grew up in Detroit.

The new clerk worked in the mental health field for several years before pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.
