Peoria Man Gets 67 Years in Teen’s Shooting Death

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — One of two brothers charged with murder in a central Illinois teenager’s shooting death has been sentenced to nearly 70 years in prison.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports 26-year-old Michael Costic Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 50 years in prison for first-degree murder and 17 years for aggravated battery. He must serve the entire 50-year sentence and could be eligible for parole after serving at least 85 percent of the 17-year sentence.

Costic was convicted earlier this year for his role in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old TreyShawn Blakely and wounding of another teen in Peoria on April 7, 2013.

His brother, Marquis Costic, was convicted of the same charges and sentenced to 51 years in prison.
