Aurora Plans Forums After 40 Shootings Recorded in 2015

AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Aurora police plan three community forums after the city west of Chicago recorded more than 40 shootings so far this year.

The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports the first forum will be Monday night. Officers from divisions like community policing and special operations are expected to attend. They say they’ll offer details about why they think there have been so many shootings and how the community can help reverse the trend.

Patrol Commander Kristen Ziman says the goal “is to give our residents a snapshot of crimes that are occurring both in their neighborhoods and in the city as a whole.” She says the department wants to have an open dialogue with residents because “the community is our biggest ally in the fight against crime.”
