Man Drowns After Canoe Tips in Northern Illinois Lake

INGLESIDE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say one man died and three people were rescued after a canoe overturned on a lake in northern Illinois.

Fox Lake Fire Battalion Chief Tom Preidis says two adults and two children were fishing in Wooster Lake, located primarily in the unincorporated community of Ingleside, when their boat tipped over Sunday evening.

Preidis says a man onshore jumped into the water and rescued the children, ages 10 and 11, before authorities arrived. He says one of the men who fell from the canoe also was able to make it to shore.

Preidis says the man who rescued the children attempted to help the second man, but he already was too far under water.

He says the second man’s body was recovered a few hours later. No other injuries were reported.

An investigation is ongoing.
