Illinois Catering Employee Admits Stealing Wedding Gifts

PEKIN, Ill. (AP) — A central Illinois woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing a couple’s gifts while she worked for a caterer at their wedding reception.

The Pekin Daily Times reports 28-year-old Cherish Prins of Washington admitted in court Monday that she forged and cashed at least one check the couple received at their East Peoria wedding Aug. 9. Tazewell County prosecutors filed a theft charge one month ago.

A prosecutor’s court affidavit says Prins took a stack of envelopes from the reception hall that contained $1,325 in monetary gifts. The affidavit states that security video captured Prins cashing a check the day after the reception.

The affidavit didn’t say if other checks the couple received were forged and cashed.
