Lake County Authorities Identify Drowning Victim

INGLESIDE, Ill. (AP) — Lake County authorities have identified the man who drowned after a canoe overturned in the unincorporated community of Ingleside.

Authorities say 35-year-old Mirza Muzaffarov of Chicago was fishing on Wooster Lake with his two sons and another man when their boat tipped over Sunday evening.

Fox Lake Fire Battalion Chief Tom Preidis says a man who was onshore jumped into the water and rescued Muzaffarov’s children, ages 10 and 11, and the other man before authorities arrived. Preidis says the man went back to help Muzaffarov, but he already was far under water.

The fire department recovered Muzaffarov’s body a few hours later. An autopsy performed Monday determined he had drowned, but toxicology results are pending.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says no one in the canoe was wearing a life jacket.
