Madigan Charges Ex-Charity Director with Theft of funds

CHICAGO (AP) — The former executive director of a Chicago charity is accused of stealing money meant to help low-income families avoid foreclosure.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan said Monday that 63-year-old Rudolph Harper of Chicago is charged with stealing more than $100,000 and with using charitable trust funds for personal use.

Harper was executive director of Organization of New City, which was created to help low-income homeowners with their mortgages while trying to avoid foreclosure.

Madigan says Harper stole money donated to the charity and diverted it to personal use.

Harper is due in court on May 28. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
