Texas Company Wants Illinois to Let It Build Energy Line

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A Texas company says it has asked the Illinois Commerce Commission for permission to build an electricity transmission line through central Illinois.

The (Decatur) Herald and Review reports Clean Line Energy Partners said Monday that it presented the commission with a proposed route and an alternate route. The company wants to build a line to bring wind farm energy from Kansas to an existing grid in Indiana. The company’s schedule has construction slated to begin in 2017 on the project, called Grain Belt Express.

Clean Line Energy’s Illinois routes are proposed to go through Pike, Scott, Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Christian, Shelby, Cumberland and Clark counties. It has asked for expedited approval. When and if the company receives approval it still needs to negotiate easements with landowners.
