Light-Headed Brandon Phillips Leaves Reds’ Game at Cubs

CHICAGO (AP) — Brandon Phillips left the Cincinnati’s game against the Chicago Cubs in the fifth inning Wednesday night because of light headedness.

The second baseman appeared to be injured in the fourth inning while running the bases. He singled and advanced to third base on Jay Bruce’s single. Phillips slid awkwardly into the base, and shortstop Starlin Castro fell onto Phillips while trying to make a tag.

Bruce broke for second and was caught in a rundown, and Phillips stayed close to third as Bruce was eventually tagged out.

Phillips stayed in the game after a long meeting with trainer Paul Lessard and manager Bryan Price, and he scored when Marlon Byrd singled.

Phillips made a diving stop on a grounder up the middle to throw out Dexter Flower in the fourth, then was replaced by Skip Shumacher after the inning.
