Titanic Exhibit Headed to Peoria Riverfront Museum

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — An exhibit of relics salvaged from the Titanic is headed to Peoria’s Riverfront Museum.

Museum officials announced they have secured a contract with Premier Exhibitions, Inc., to bring the show to central Illinois next year. A subsidiary of Atlanta-based Premier oversees the collection of more than 5,500 Titanic artifacts. Premier has multiple versions of the show in rotation.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports the Peoria exhibit will feature 125 to 150 artifacts as well as re-creations of first-class and third-class cabins.

Museum CEO Sam Gappmayer calls it “a terrific body of work.”

It runs from November 2016 until March 2017.

The Titanic sank on its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912, killing more than 1,500 of the 2,228 passengers and crew. The wreckage was found in 1985.
