Hundreds March in Chicago For Higher Wages

CHICAGO (AP) — Thousands of people marched through Chicago’s business district in support of an effort to raise the minimum raise to $15 an hour.

The Fight for $15 demonstration was part of a nation-wide effort Wednesday to win higher pay and a union for fast-food and other low-wage workers.

Organizers said demonstrations were planned for more than 230 U.S. cities.

Chicago’s protest began early Wednesday with a rally outside a South Side McDonald’s restaurant. It moved in the afternoon to the University of Illinois at Chicago campus and on to a McDonald’s near the Chicago Board of Trade.

Among the demonstrators was Scott Grunow, a non-tenured, full-time professor at UIC. He wouldn’t give his salary, but said he would quit a second job and continue his education if he had a higher salary.
