Suspect in Southeast Iowa Slaying Arrested in Galesburg

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 28-year-old Burlington man has been slain and a suspect has been caught in Illinois.

A news release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety says officers were sent to an address in central Burlington early Wednesday morning to investigate a report of gunshots. The officers found Matthew Banks, who’d been shot several times. Banks was taken to Great River Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A 43-year-old man suspected of killing Banks is being held in Knox County, Illinois. Iowa authorities say Maurice Green was arrested in Galesburg, Illinois, on Wednesday night and is charged with first-degree murder. Iowa online court records don’t list the name of an attorney who could be contacted to comment on Green’s behalf.
