Building and Grounds Committee Approves Bid Package for GHS Entryway

9-4-14 Galesburg High SchoolRenovations to Galesburg High School’s entryway and lobby are expected to come in within the projected budget.

That’s according to District 205 Finance Superintendent David Black, who says that around $450,000 will be used as contingency funds for the project , and if any funds are left over, they will dealt with at that point.

The district’s Building and Grounds Committee met this afternoon, where it approved a bid to renovate at a cost of around $2.5 million dollars.

According to representatives of the Russell Construction Company who will complete work, the projected cost includes replacement of floor tiling, asbestos removal and “floor to ceiling glass work.”

Black says the bid chosen by committee members, will look uniform and will match once it’s complete. The project will entail an estimated $156,000 worth of asbestos removal–which is expected to be removed over the course of the next two summers.

The committee’s approval still requires a school board vote at this Monday’s meeting, before moving forward. Work is expected to begin June 8th and will conclude August 12th.
