Monmouth Church Celebrates 50 Years of Merger

An area church will mark its 50th anniversary this weekend, in celebration of a merger that took place in the 1960’s.

Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, will host its Golden Jubilee this Sunday. The church reportedly merged with four are Presbyterian churches in 1964 in order to consolidate.

That’s according to Administrative Assistant Sarah Torrance, who tells WGIL, that historical memorabilia collected from church patrons is currently on display to honor congregations past.

“There are pictures of course from the old church and the merged churches,” says Torrance. “The design plans are out, there is other information out–basically the rule book, information on the stained glass windows. There is just a ton of stuff.”

Torrance says the celebration is a great way to reminisce over the churches history.

“I think the main is goal to give everybody a part of what they gave us over the 50 years–just a lot of good memories. ” “Everybody knows each other, everybody’s families know each other. It just shows how the community has progressed.”

Events start Sunday with a commemorative service at 10:30 a.m. The historical presentation will be held at 1 p.m.
